Sanusi Hospital Laboratory to be rated 5 Star
Sir Muhammad Sanusi General Hospital in Kano has been chosen as one of six facilities in Nigeria to be converted as 5 star Internationally Accredited HIV Laboratory Service centers.
Dr Bashir Zubairu Head of Kano Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria (IVHN) made this Known when he led a team from Global Fund and Fhi360 on advocacy visit to Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) for International Accreditation of HIV Laboratory Services in the state on Thursday.
Zubairu said the hospital laboratory was well equipped with modern facilities for the program, adding that when accredited, Sir Sanusi Hospital will not only engaged in HIV testing but rather all related diseases.
He pointed out that the hospital will becomes a center of excellent for such services if it scaled through the accreditation, hoping that the state government under supervision of the state ministry of health and KSACA would accord necessary support before, during and after the accreditation exercise by foreign medical laboratory experts.
In her remarks, Senior Tech. Officer(STO) of the program, Ugochi Ezenwelu said the visit was for sensitization towards Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), implementation and accreditation.
Ezenwelu added that custodian of laboratory are expected to ensure result from their center are accurate, stressing that based on that all the staff of the hospital would be sensitized and trained in order to achieve the set goals.
The STO also noted that for the program to succeed, manpower is needed in such laboratories as well as adequate commitment from staff and upgrading of the facility by the government.
Responding, KSACA Director General, Dr Usman Bashir assured the visitors that Kano state government under leadership of Governor, Dr Abdullah Umar Ganduje would support them as its being done in other hospitals.
He cited that state’s Infectious Disease Hospital(IDH) has recently scaled through similar accreditation with full support of the state government assuring that Sir Sanusi Hospital would received similar support of accreditation to be one of 5 star laboratory recognised globally.
