Salary: Fayose Meet Stakeholders to Avert Crisis

Ekiti state Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has started discussing with the organised labour, on how to resolve the seemingly knotty issue of dwindling Federal Allocation to the state, in a bid to avert a situation that may force the state workforce to join the league of states whose workers were being owed salaries.

Presently, Ekiti State is owing a month’s salary and the situation has already created apprehension among its workers because the state is purely a civil service state which has no other industry.

Fayose had while speaking in Ado Ekiti recently during the Nigeria Labour Congress delegate conference, where Comrade Ade Adesanmi had emerged as the new Chairman of the congress, assured that workers would be paid regularly, in accordance with his vow during the electioneering.

He hinted that a sum of N2 billion was received for Aprilfrom the Federation Account, even when the wage bill of workers stood at N2.6 billion, saying he would have to convoke the meeting of all relevant stakeholders to seek advice on how to wriggle out of the logjam.

However, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Toyin Ojo, gave said that the governor had started liaising with labour leaders, who were critical stakeholders on issue bordering on wages.

“We are laying our cards on the table. We want our stakeholders to give us suggestions. It is after we have agreed on modalities that we will start paying,” Ojo said.
