Robbers raid students’ hostel

Armed hoodlums numbering about three, operating with a motorcycle during the night of the day, robbed students’ hostel located at Area 74, back of Ibori Golf Club between 9 and 10pm in Asaba.
It was gathered that the hoodlums robbed apartments, including that of a banker residing in the hostel. According to one of the students who spoke to our reporter, they were in their rooms watching movie when they heard knocks on their doors telling them to open at gunpoint.
According to the source, the robbers got hold of one of the students who went out to buy something to eat; they grabbed him at gunpoint straight to his apartment and raided the house, carting away his handset phones, his feeding money, laptop and other items.
After they were done with the first victim, the robbers, who were heavily armed, broke into the apartment of a female banker, and, also at gunpoint, carted away about seven handsets, three laptops, jewelries, an undisclosed amount of money, electronics, clothe and ATM cards.
It was learnt that the robbers forced the female banker to disclose her ATM card number, and, thereafter, hurried of the hostel to a waiting motorcycle they used for the operation.
The source told our reporter that the first set of students to stay in that hostel were frustrated out by incessant armed robbery attacks on them by unknown gunmen.
It was gathered that this last operation made it about three to four times robbers had raided the hostel. According to one of the victims, “we are afraid to even go out during the day because once they know that we are out for lectures, the robbers will break into our apartments and steal our property, particularly laptops, handsets and money”.
“We are calling on the police to beef up security in the area, particularly at night, to check this trend, because what surprises some of us, for the three times the robbers have attacked the hostel and other hostels in the area, no arrest and they go home unchallenged”.
Contacted for reaction, Police Officers at the GRA Police Division who did not want their names in the print confirmed the incident, adding investigation was ongoing.
