Rivers Utd: Akande assures on Confed Cup qualification

Rivers United goalkeeper Abiodun Akande believes his side can still qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup despite their loss to Ugandan side Kampala CCA.

The Nigerian side were beaten 2-1 on Matchday 3 of the competition which has left them bottom of the group with three points from three games.

Akande came on for injured veteran goalkeeper Rotimi Sunday and despite making a couple of saves during the game, he was beaten in the second half as Rivers United lost for the second time in the group stage.

“It is one of those things; that is football for you, you win some, draw some and lose some,” he told reporters after the game.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted, though we prepared well for it. KCCA are a good side and they showed it.

“Despite this result, I still believe in this team. I’m confident we can qualify for the quarterfinals. We will be meeting them (KCCA) in a fortnight and I’m sure we can beat them at home.

“I’m positive that we will qualify from our group. We will do all we can to qualify.”
