Rivers poll: INEC redeploys Admin Sec, HOD, Dep directors, others

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has redeployed its administrative secretary in Rivers state.
Also redeployed are all the heads of department, deputy directors and assistant directors as well as all the 23 electoral officers in INEC’s local government offices in the state.
This was confirmed on Thursday by the INEC’s national commissioner, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, while speaking with Journalists in Abuja.
She attributed the action to the outcome of the report of the administrative panel set up by the commission on the December 10, in Rivers state.
Agba mucho-Mbu further stated that the Commission will take a final decision on the 202 officials who were indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the role they allegedly played during the 2015 general elections.
The commission, it will be recalled, had last week accepted the report of the administrative panel with a pledge then to overhaul the INEC office in the state.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu disclosed that a total of 202 INEC officials from 14 states were listed in the panel’s report
According to her, “based on the EFCC’s interim report, the commission subsequently queried and invited them to appear before an Administrative Panel.
“The final report of the investigation into the matter will be considered by the commission at its meeting next week.”
She also disclosed that five Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) would retire from the commission on March 4.
About 28 RECs had earlier retired and were yet to be replaced by the presidency.
RECs, whose tenure would expire on March 4, according to Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu, include Prof. Jacob Jatau (Federal Capital Territory); Mr. Segun Agbaje (Ondo); Barrister Austin Okojie (Bayelse) and Mr. Nasir Ayilara (Niger).
