Rivers policemen, community rescue kidnapped monarch

The Paramount Ruler of Mgbuolua, Rundele community of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief G.A.O Omodu who was kidnapped in the early hours of Tuesday December 26, 2017, at his Ndele Residence has been rescued by men of the Rivers State Police Command less than 12 hours after his abduction.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said that the rescue operation was successful through the efforts of the locals and the police.
DSP Omoni said that the rescued paramount ruler has reunited with his family, while efforts were on to track down his abductors and bring them to justice.
On Boxing Day, unidentified gunmen stormed the residence of the paramount ruler in Rundele, Emohua, around 2.30 a.m and whisked him away in his car to an unknown destination.
It was gathered that he was kidnapped at gunpoint at his residence in the early hours of the fateful day, and taken to an unknown destination.
When his car was later found abandoned between Rumuji and Ndele axis of the East West Road, the community was thrown into panic about his safety. They, therefore, swung into action, collaborating with the police in a massive search for their monarch, according to an eye witness account.
The PPRO who earlier confirmed the incident, said security operatives had been deployed to the area to ensure the monarch was rescued unharmed.
He said: “We are aware and our men have been deployed to the area to ensure the safe and quick release of the victim. There is no cause for alarm. The monarch will be rescued.”
