Rivers NLC in Crisis as Williams Emerge Factional Chair

In a bid to take the Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC] Rivers State Council next level newly elected factional leader, Comrade Prince Adda Williams has plan to stop anti-union activity and over haul the union in the state.
During an exclusive interview with The Daily Times in Port Harcourt Comrade Williams said his administration will put anti-union activities to an end as welfare of workers would be a priority and pursuance of other rights in the system.
The former NIPOST and Telecommunication Union Vice-Chairman of old NLC was in well-attended delegates conferences drawn from over thirty-one [31] affiliates union in Rivers State elected factional chairman Friday 24th April 2015 in Port Harcourt.
While, announcing the result of the election, the Returning Officer, Joseph Agbo said Williams of NIPOST and Telecommunication Union has been elected by popular votes from delegates.
The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees [NULGE], Comrade Franklin Ajiinwo, elected 1st Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman, and Comrade Charles Aleto.
As the other faction led by Comrade the out-going chairman in the state was said to have also elected one Comrade Beatrice Etubo of Medical and Health Workers Union its chairman.
The Daily Times gathered that the major contender in the said polls, Comrd.Henry Orumbo has criticized the exercise, alleging irregularities.
Reliable source told The Daily Times that, Orumbo has rejected the outcome of the polls.
The Daily Times also gathered that Comrd Orumbo apart from alleging rigging of the election claimed that the delegate’s conference had earlier been stopped by court injunction obtained by aggrieved members who are not comfortable with Oruge led faction.
In fact Comrd Adda Williams had alleged in an interview with newsmen that Comrade Etubo’s tenure in her Primary and Health Workers Union has elapsed and as such she was no longer eligible to contest the NLC chairmanship, coupled with a court injunction slammed on the NLC to stop the delegate’s conference.
The Trade Union Congress [TUC] Chairman in Rivers State Comrade Chika Onuegbu has advised that the NLC should try and unite for the interest of the workers.
According to him, “any attempt to balkanize the NLC at the auspicious moment will not be to the interest of Nigerian workers in Rivers and indeed Nigeria at large.
It would be recalled that the National NLC had recently had its own share of the crisis when a previously botched delegate’s conference election later produced two factional Presidents with Comrd Ayuba Wabba leading one of the factional group.
