Rivers Civil Society Organisation advises lawmakers on security

Mr. Enefaa Georgewill, Chairman, Rivers Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), on Thursday advised Rivers House of Assembly on the modalities to boost security in the state.

Georgewill gave  the advice while addressing a newsmen in Port Harcourt.

He said that it had become necessary for the house to invite the state governor and other security stakeholders to ascertain the efficiency so far displayed by the “Operation Sting” in crime fighting in the state.

Georgewill also suggested the need for government to make more efforts in tackling flood and sea piracy on the waterways, adding that piracy had brought untold hardship on local economies in the state.

“The lawmakers should invite the governor and other relevant agencies operating in the state to explain the activities and efficiency of ‘Operation Sting’, especially in riverside communities.

“ Security operatives should employ more stringent measures to curb kidnappings and sea piracy,” he said.

He, however, commended the House of Assembly on improvement in terms of oversight and value addition, noting that the measures has added value to legislative business.
