Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged all eligible voters in the state’s Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to actively participate in the bye-elections scheduled for Saturday.
Ahoada East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2 will hold elections to fill vacancies in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Fubara, who made the call in Port Harcourt on Friday, described the election as a family affair and urged people to turn out in droves to support the All Progressives Congress candidates running for the two vacant seats in the state legislature.
The governor’s call was contained in a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, and distributed to journalists.
Governor Fubara also urged the people of the state, particularly in areas where the elections will be held, to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the process.
The governor stated, “Everyone should follow the law and avoid doing anything that will disrupt the peace during the exercise.
“It is actually a family election, so there is no need for squabbles and acrimony.”
Meanwhile, the state police command has ordered the restriction of movement in the two LGAs beginning from 1200 hours to 6pm on Saturday.
