Rise in cases of missing persons unsettle Delta residents

The increasing cases of missing persons across Delta State in recent times has unsettled residents of the state who are currently living in the fear of the unknown.
Investigation revealed that last week, about 7-11 cars and a boy was declared missing in a mysterious circumstances in Agbor town, Ika South Local Government Area of the state and the victim was allegedly taken away by a neighbour under the guise of buying biscuit for him, and they both never returned.
It was further learnt that the search for the victim, an Urhobo, (name withheld), and a student of Memorial Primary School, Abubayi, Agbor, at present had proven abortive.
A similar incident was reported on Tuesday in Asaba, the state capital, where a five-year-old boy reportedly playing outside the father’s premises, was alleged to have been missing in mysterious circumstances.
Members of the gang, suspected to be behind the disappearance, escaped as area boys chased them out of the area after they robbed a lady at gunpoint.
However, luck ran against four other members of the gang as they were later arrested during the week in their hideout in Asaba by operatives of Asaba Community Vigilance.
It was gathered that following the arrest of the first members of the gang by some soldiers, the suspect was interrogated and he named other members of the gang.
It was learnt that the police, in synergy with the operatives of the Asaba Community Vigilance, swung into action and traced the suspects to their different hideouts in town and arrested them.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspects, the Chairman of Asaba Community Vigilance, Mr. Nnamdi Chukwuedo, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that they have been handed over to the police for interrogation and possible prosecution.
He said that the operatives, acting on a tip-off, after one of the gang members was arrested, when they robbed a lady at the back of the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, stormed the hideouts of the suspects and arrested the hoodlums.
He said: “We arrested four other members of the gang in different hideouts in Asaba; we traced them both at night and day, then effected their arrest and thereafter handed them over to the police.”
“I can tell you that vigilante operatives are on red alert, because as the yuletide approaches, many of these bad boys want to make money at all cost, but we are on top of the situation as we will not allow them to steal from innocent.
