Rio 2016: Firm stages Talent Hunt in S'East

Ahead of Rio 2016 Olympics, a Lagos-based athlete’s development outfit, “Making of Champions” has begun a two-day talent hunt of young grassroots athletes in the South East of Nigeria.

The event, according to the initiator of the programme, Bambo Akani, is aimed at discovering scores of young talented athletes in parts of South East, Nigeria, especially at the rural communities.

He said the organization is poised towards reviving and grooming athletes between the ages of 16-25 that would fill the gap created by the exit of some ex-internationals such as Deji Aliu, Gloria Alozie, Uchenna Emedolu, Francis Obikwelu, amongst others.

The event which is scheduled for Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, between March 20—21, will feature some of the aforementioned legendary athletes.

Briefing the media yesterday on the programme, Bambo, alongside Alozie, Emedolu and Obikwelu, called on youths of the zone to embrace the audition.

Emedolu, in a brief comment took a swipe on the Athletes Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for the unfriendly manner it had been treating ex-internationals.
