Retiring staff urged to adjust life style

The General Manager, Human Resources, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Alhaji Adamu Yamsikit, has advised aviation workers about to retire from service to adjust their life styles to cope with retirement challenges.
He gave the advice while declaring open the Airport Fire and Safety Co-operative Multipurpose Society Limited at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) pre- retirement training for 40 about-to- retire workers of the various agencies at FAAN Training School, international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.
The General Manager, who commended the President of the Co-operative, Mr Richard Tella not only for the initiative but also for assisting the -about -to -retire workers of the various agencies in the aviation sector.
He disclosed that the Head of Service has made it mandatory that that before civil servants retires from service there must be reasonable notice to those about to retire before the bow out.
Yamsikit further advised civil servants ;whether about –to- retire or still in service to always ensure that they join cooperative societies so as to have something to fall back on when they retire before they get their entitlements.
He also pointed out that cooperative society is what civil servant without any other businesses outside the civil service fall back on; hence the need to get involved in with cooperative society activities.
According to him, “the only way out is cooperative and this will give you a starting point when you retire.”
He continued, “the first thing any civil servant should do when you are about to retire is to adjust your life style, cut down your spending to meet the challenges of retirement.”
He called on other cooperative societies in the sector to emulate the Airport Fire and Safety Co-operative Multipurpose Society Limited.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Airport Fire and Safety Co-operative Multipurpose Society Limited, Mr Richard Tella disclosed that that 40 aviation workers from the NCAA, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) that will retire in December are attending the pre- retirement training event.
He stated that essence of the training was to prepare the-about –to- retire workers for retirement, adding that it was the government that was doing it before now but that due to some challenges on the part of government the cooperative decided to come in.
On her part, the General Manager, Human Resources, NAMA, Mrs Sule Martha, advised the 40 potential retirees to be prudent in their spending.
Sule, who was represented by the Assistant General Manager, Pension, Mr Olusesi Olajide urged them to ensure that they spend their money prudently; adding that the time for frivolities should be over.
He further advised them to immediately deploy their money to the project they want to embark on the moment they are paid their entitlements in view of the current value of the Naira in the market.
In his words, “The moment you get your money be prudent in spending. The earlier you invest your money in what you have thought of the best because we all know the value of the Naira today.”
One of the 40 workers, who attended the pre- retirement training programme, Mrs Deputy General Manager, Retail, Mrs Mary Ojusi, commended the President of the cooperative and his team for organising the programme, saying that it came at the right time.
She stated that she was happy when she heard about the pre- retirement training and that it came at the right time for those who will be stepping out soon.
According to her, “the programme is organised by the cooperative for those about stepping out of service. I was very happy when I heard about the programme. It is a very good thing the Airport Fire and Safety Co-operative Multipurpose Society Limited came up with the programme and it is good that we are been prepared for retirement.”
