Residents groan as water shortage hits Birnin Kebbi

Investigation carried out by Daily Times correspondent revealed that there is acute water shortage in the state capital Birnin Kebbi, particularly Shiyar Sarakuna, Badariya and Rafin Atiku areas in Birnin Kebbi.
Households in the affected areas confirmed to this paper that, those who can afford it daily patronises water vendors spending at least a thousand naira every day, the poor among them trek long distance to access water.
Physical survey indicated that majority of the public taps have runs dry the water board and the mother ministry for water resources didnt help the situation as lots of complaints forwarded to the relevant bodies hit brick wall.
Frantic efforts made by our correspondent to get the state commissioner Nuradeen Usman Kangiwa to speak on the matter were frustrated by him as he blocked access to his office and failed several appointments he gave.
However, the water shortage is far from over because so far no visible action is taken by the government to avert the lingering water problem in the state.
