Reps Stop NFF from Refunding $3.6m
House of Representatives Committee on Sports on Tuesday ordered the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) not to refund the $3.6million intervention fund given to it by the federal government during the FIFA World Cup in Brazil last year.
Speaking at the NFF budget defence, Chairman of the Committee Hon Godfrey Ali Gaiya said the amount given to the federation to settle the players’ allowances was from service wide vote which does not require refund.
He noted that it is an interventionist fund that has been budgeted adding that all NFF should do is to write and notify the National Assembly and the government of the existence of such money in their coffers and then go ahead to augment their budget which they said has fallen short.
The committee however passed N1.5bn for the federation against the N5.5bn budgeted by the federation but advised them to add up all incomes from FIFA, CAF and other sponsors.
