Reps Spokesman Seeks Stronger Legislative Reporting on Automotive Sector

The spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akin Rotimi Monday called for improved legislative reporting on Nigeria’s automotive industry. He spoke at a one day capacity building programme for the House of Representatives Press Corps in Abuja.

The programme, themed “Strengthening Sectoral Policy Communication and Legislative Reporting on Nigeria’s Automotive Industry Development,” was organised in partnership with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).

Rotimi commended the NADDC for its support, saying the partnership reflects a shared commitment to reform and professional development. He stated that the House places high priority on capacity building, noting that lawmaking is strengthened when policies are clearly communicated to citizens.

Rotimi described the Press Corps as key to promoting transparency and accountability, adding that journalists help translate legislative work into public understanding.

He disclosed that the House has institutionalised regular, sector focused training for journalists. According to him, the engagements are aligned with national priorities, recalling that a similar programme on digital governance and emerging technologies was recently held.

He said the focus on the automotive sector aligns with the 10th Assembly’s reform agenda. The agenda, he added, supports economic diversification and industrial growth.

Rotimi noted that the automotive industry is vital for local content development, job creation and technology transfer, urging participants to actively engage in the sessions.

The Director-General of NADDC, Otunba Joseph Osanipin said the programme aims to strengthen policy communication adding that it would equip journalists with tools to report the sector accurately.

Osanipin stressed that informed reporting promotes transparency and public confidence,just as he encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity to improve the quality of their legislative coverage.
