Reps Raise Alarm Over Killings, Kidnappings and N100m ‘Tax’ in Zamfara

The House of Representatives on Tuesday raised concern over renewed killings and kidnappings in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Kabiru Ahmadu Mai Palace.
He said bandits had imposed a N100 million “tax” on several poor farming communities already struggling to survive.
The lawmaker reminded the House that the Constitution places the security and welfare of citizens as the primary duty of government.
Mai Palace said armed bandits attacked Keta, Bilbis, Kwaren Ganuwa, Danjibga and many neighbouring villages, killing more than 10 people.
He added that at least 130 residents were abducted during the raids, which lasted two to three weeks with little resistance from security agencies.
The lawmaker also reported fresh killings in Ruwan Dawa, Tofa, Ungwar Malami, Gidan Maza, Sabon Gida and Zonai communities.
He noted that a former Special Adviser in Zamfara State, Hon. Umar Moriki, was shot dead last Saturday along the Gusau–Tsafe road.
The House resolved to urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt a new strategy for tackling insecurity in Zamfara.
It also directed the Minister of Defence and all service chiefs to relocate temporarily to the state and conduct a major security operation, while relevant committees were mandated to ensure strict compliance.
