Reps introduce 1473, passed 222 bills in 3 years

The House of Representatives has passed 222 out of the 1,473 bills it introduced since its inauguration on June 9, 2015.

Disclosing this at a media briefing to mark the House’ third year Anniversary, Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Honourable Abdulrazaq Namdas, said that the green chambers performed very well compare to previous assemblies.

According to Namdas, 519 bills were awaiting second reading, while 284 have been referred to committees and 112 still awaiting consideration. He added that 22 were negative while 23 withdrawn.

“No other Assembly since 1999 has achieved this much. Within this years, we were able to team up with the executive to ensure that Nigeria exited recession.

He listed bills passed to include the North East Development Commission (NEDC), the Not-Too-Young-To-Run bill, the constitution Alteration bill, that had almost 90 bills, which has been passed and sent for concurrence.

Also, over 1,000 motions were passed by the House but however expressed dismay that not majority of the House resolution were not implemented by the executive, he said.

Meanwhile, the House has proceeded on recess to mark the end of the legislative year. The recess is also to allow members celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid-el-Fitr as well as participate in party convention and congresses.

The House is scheduled to resume on July 3, 2018.
