Reps C’ttee Undertakes Oversight Visit to Public Service Institute of Nigeria

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Service Matters has commenced an oversight visit to the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), Kubwa, Abuja to assess its operations and performance.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Sani Umar Bala described the engagement as significant
as it marked the Committee’s first official interaction with the Institute under the leadership of its new Administrator.

Bala congratulated the Administrator on the appointment and assured the Institute of the Committee’s support, stressing that the legislature expected a productive working relationship anchored on accountability, innovation and institutional growth.

He recalled that the Committee’s last oversight visit to the Institute took place in July last year, during which several observations and recommendations were made.

According to him, key among the recommendations was the need for the Institute to adopt innovative and sustainable strategies to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in order to strengthen its operations and reduce overreliance on government funding.

The Committee chairman noted that the current visit was aimed at reviewing the level of compliance with previous recommendations, evaluating ongoing reforms and identifying areas requiring legislative intervention to enhance the Institute’s effectiveness in capacity building for public servants.

He reaffirmed the House’s commitment to strengthening public service institutions, adding that effective oversight remained critical to improving service delivery and promoting efficiency within the public sector.

The oversight visit featured interactions with the Institute’s management and senior officials, as well as inspections of key facilities.
