Report What You See, Zamfara Commissioner Tells Visiting Journalists

Zamfara state commissioner for Information Mohammad Sandah Denjari Sunday night charged journalists visiting the state to be free to report the truth of what they see without fear or bias.
The Commissioner made the statement while speaking in Gusau the state capital at a meeting to welcome media executives from across Nigeria who are on Democracy Dividend Tour organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ.
He thanked the journalists for choosing Zamfara state as the starting point of their nation wide tour of states which he said may be in consideration of the fact that the state governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari is the chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum.
“We feel honoured that you are here to access what the government has achieved in the life of the current administration. Please feel free to report to the world the exact situation as you see them.
We will take you round the three senatorial zones so that you see for yourself the transformation that has taken place in our state since 2011 when His Excellency took over office,” Mohammed Sandah stated.
In his own remark, the Special Adviser to the governor on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara said that security situation in Zamfara state is exaggerated as the people enjoy relative peace in spite of the occasional attacks which he said the government is working hand in hand with the Federal Government to address.
Dosara asked the journalists to feel free to embark on the media tour of the state as there is nothing to fear, adding that the people of Zamfara are entitled to know what their governor is doing for them, therefore the reason why the tour is commendable.
The national president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ, Waheed Odusile who led the journalists on the tour stated that the constitution of Nigeria provided that journalists are to serve as watchdogs to the society by reporting activities of government and other segments of the society to the people.
Odusile who said that it is time for Nigerians to tell their own story, assured the government of Zamfara state that the purpose of the media tour was to access the activities of the government and bring the report to the people in order to enhance leadership in the states across the country and not to witch hunt the government.
