Remove unqualified proprietors from NAPPS – Ebonyi commissioner

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Amb. Dr Donatus Chukwuma Ilang, has ordered the immediate removal of unqualified proprietors from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ebonyi State chapter.
He gave the directive during a meeting with the association’s leadership at his office.
Dr Ilang warned that proprietors operating substandard schools would no longer be recognised as members and would be dealt with under Law 008. He said the ministry had made its policy clear through public announcements and would not hesitate to enforce regulations.
He appealed to NAPPS members to promote peace, unity and order within the association and to support government efforts to raise standards in the sector. He urged managers of private and faith based schools to comply with regulations and to refuse to pay for protection, adding that no substandard school would be allowed to operate in the state.
When monitoring and supervision begins, he said, any school or individual found wanting will face the law. He told the association to act now rather than force the government to take harder measures.
Responding on behalf of NAPPS, Barr. Agbom Samuel thanked the commissioner for his counsel and pledged the association’s support for measures that protect pupils and enhance educational quality in private schools.
Also at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Mary N. Otozi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Secondary Education, Hon Peter Nwogbaga, and other senior officials.
Dr Ilang commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his investment in the education sector and assured the public that the government would sustain efforts to improve learning outcomes across the state.
