Reject Violent Politicians, Obama Tells Nigerians
President Barak Obama of the United States of America has joined the hordes of concerned world leaders to urge peaceful electioneering in Nigeria come March 28 and April 11, 2015.
To this end, the American leader has called on President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the standard bearer of the ruling Peoples Democratioc Party (PDP) and his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to warn their supporters against committing any violent act in the coming polls.
In a video posted on Monday on the White House official website, President Obama conveyed the message to the Nigerian people to highlight the opportunity that the upcoming elections presents for them to stand together in rejecting violence and extremism and instead show their support for a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous future.
The American president was quoted as saying, “Now you have a historic opportunity to help write the next chapter of Nigeria’s progress—by voting in the upcoming elections. For elections to be credible, they must be free, fair and peaceful.
All Nigerians must be able to cast their votes without intimidation or fear. “So I call on all leaders and candidates to make it clear to their supporters that violence has no place in democratic elections”.
