Tom Okpe, Abuja

The Forum of All Progressives Congress, APC state Chairmen has called on the National Caretaker/ExtraOrdinary Convention Planning Committee, NCECPC led by governor Mai Mala Buni to extend the ongoing registration and revalidation of members to enable all prospective members to be carried along.

In a press conference with journalists on Thursday, Chairman of the Forum and State Chairman, APC Borno State Ali Bukar Dalori stated thàt beyond been a welcome development, it has tremendously increased the membership base of the party since the exercise began and has continued to increase as the exercise progresses.

He said: “We have seen a tremendous turnout of Nigerians and the mass increase in the party strength in the last few months and it is only proper that we allow the exercise to progress to the best conclusion.

“Immediately after the commencement of the exercise, we all saw the need for an extension to accommodate the second stage of the exercise in view of the mass turnout of Nigerians to associate with the party that was not duly prepared for.

“Having reviewed the development and making arrangement for requisite materials to accommodate all into the fold of the party, the need for further extension has logically emerged.

“Due to logistics bottleneck and the complexity of the distribution process of registration materials, a number of state only received the materials to commence the second phase of the registration exercise not too long ago, and we therefore, not been able to meet up with the reviewed schedule timetable of the exercise without denying so many willing citizens the opportunity to join the party.

“We, state chairmen of APC therefore, by this opportunity, appeal to the leadership of the party and the CECPC to consider, in the interest of the party and all intending members of the party across the country, to consider and effect a further extension of the exercise.”

Dalori further commended the CECPC in its wisdom to organize the ongoing nationwide membership revalidation and update of membership register of the party saying, “We, therefore, recommend an extension of the exercise to enable us to bring into the fold all willing citizens in our various states.”

The Forum explained that the exercise provided a prelude to what is to be expected in all future elections in Nigeria.

“With the turnout of Nigerians to identify with us, it is certain that the trust of Nigerians in the party remains unwavering and just like projected, we will continue into the next decades to provide the needed leadership to the country as the party in power, not only at the center but in almost all the states of the federation.”

The party chairmen àlso called for immediate conduct of Congresses, convening the National Convention; and to allow for the completion of all other tasks assigned to the CECPC by the National Executive Council, NEC within the time frame after the exercise.
