The need to educate and encourage Nigerian youths to believe in themselves rather than lamenting the current economic situation in the country has been advocated.
By so doing, it will help in creating awareness among the youths to make themselves available for the youth empowerment programmes envisioned by the Federal and the various state governments.
These were the words of the Managing Director and founder of the Great Tigress, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Francess Ewien Osanakpa, a body, she said, was put together for the purpose of empowering youths to be equal partners in the process of change and to advocate for youth rights and voice in mental health and other systems that serve them,
Osanakpa who spoke at the launching of the NGO in Benin said having realised that today’s generation of young people was the largest the World has ever known because one in every three persons living today is under the age of 30 years, therefore it has become important to educate their mind to assimilate the current global situation.
According to her, having realised that the challenge of empowering the youths by creating enough jobs to engage them is one of the major challenges the entire world is facing today, the Great Tigress believe that once their mind is prepared towards this, the problem is half solved.
“We envisioned that the present and future youths will play a big role in how the world adapts to these challenges, it is now left on our shoulder to provide these supportive environment and opportunities by making this NGO a success by achieving our dream of creating a platform where youths are empowered financially and mentally.
“The Great Tigress also envisaged that developing the youth for leadership is a big challenge and as such, we need to adopt a system in which every youth that enters a youth serving system is prepared for life through genuine opportunities and authentic involvement throughout all systems levels so that no youth falls through the cracks
” However, we will help to guide the redevelopment of the systems so that no youth falls through the cracks and also advocate for youth to utilise their power and expertise to foster change in their own lives and their communities.
