Real Reason Why Workers’ Day Failed in Abia
Some reasons emerged, at the weekend, as to why the National Labour Congress (NLC) could not hold Workers’ Day celebration in Abia State and why the state government backed out of the celebration.
One reason was fallout of the state congress, held by NLC, in Umuahia, the state capital, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, which produced three factional leaders: the incumbent, Sylvanus Eyeh, UchennaObigwe and Christopher Uchenna.
Towards proving their authenticity, all factions held their own celebration at different venues.
While UchennaObigwe faction celebrated at the usual Ibeku High School, the Christopher Uchenna faction assembled at Urban Primary School Road, all in Umuahia.
Eyeh, who purportedly lost his position at the congress, even with the barrage of labour stakeholders behind him, couldn’t find a place to celebrate in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Umuahia, on Friday, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. A.C.B. Agbazuere, described as unfortunate, a situation where the state government received three different invitations from three factions of the Nigerian Labour Congress each laying claim to the leadership of the union.
