The youth fellowship of The Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Higher Ground Parish, Alakuko, Lagos (Lagos Province 25), held an intimate relationship seminar tagged, ‘Rethinking Relationships’ on Saturday February 18, 2017.
The event which had in attendance young adults from across the state, was aimed at reorienting and helping Christian youths in making the right choices in their relationships.
In his opening remarks, the youth president of the parish, Kehinde Olusola, said the vision of the youth fellowship is to raise exemplary and purpose-driven leaders who are empowered and equipped for personal efficiency and spiritual growth; and seeing that relationships these days have become more of transactional and situational as against God’s will, there is an imperative need for young adults to rethink and reimagine their relationships, hence, the theme of the event, ‘Rethinking Relationships’.
The facilitators- Oluyele Adebiyi, Godgift Matthew and Oluwapelumi Onatuga-came in full gear as they are highly distinct professionals with proven track record of success in their respective fields.
Oluwapelumi Onatuga, a faith-based speaker and Headplanner of Lumirolls event (an event consultancy company) who facilitated the first session spoke on building formidable relationships. In her words, ‘You can make a lot of bad decisions in life and recover but the consequences of making bad decisions in relationships can be brutal’.
Oluyele Adebiyi, a Life Coach, media entrepreneur and a sexual purity advocate spoke extensively on the importance of having a solid relationship with God and the ripple effects it has.
The third speaker, Godgift Matthew, an inspirational and motivational speaker, did a mind-blowing job dissecting the topic, ‘The essence and purpose of relationships’. He stated that an individual‘s relationship must be in alignment with his/her purpose.
As part of the features of the event, the audience went through a Personality Profiling Session powered by The Optimist Group, a not-for-profit organization aimed at helping young adults find themselves and pursue their dreams without limits.
A major highlight of the event was the Panel Session where the audience had a no-holds-barred conversation with the facilitators. This session, moderated by Desola Afolabi, a journalist with Daily Times Newspapers and Olaonipekun Aweda, gave the audience the privilege to ask questions ranging from relationships to sexual orientation and identity as well as other life essentials.
It was an atmosphere of interaction and influence as the participants were inspired to wholly focus on purpose-driven relationships.
