Rashford, Winks Out As Grealish Gets First Three Lions Call-up

Jack Grealish has earned a senior national team callup for the first time after the English national team had two players opt out of the squad.

Manchester United attacker, Marcus Rashford and Tottenham midfielder, Harry Winks both asked to be excused from the UEFA Nations League games against Denmark and Iceland.

Grealish represented England consistently at under-21 level between 2016 and 2017 but has been snubbed by Gareth Southgate for some time now despite his eye-catching displays with Aston Villa.

Grealish was a member of Southgate’s 2016 Toulon Tournament-winning squad.

Without Rashford and Winks and following Saturday’s addition of Conor Coady and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, the England manager will now begin his preparations with a squad of 24.

The Three Lions face Iceland in Reykjavik on Saturday 5 September (5pm BST) before travelling to Copenhagen to play Denmark on Tuesday 8 September (7.45pm BST). Both matches will be live on Sky Sports.

Updated England squad to face Iceland and Denmark:

Yes Tammy Abraham (Chelsea), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Mason Greenwood (Manchester United), Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Danny Ings (Southampton), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Michael Keane (Everton), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley), Declan Rice (West Ham United), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
