Ramadan and Lent: Governor Adeleke Reduces Work Hours for Osun Civil Servants
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a temporary reduction in work hours for all state employees. This was initiated in a bid to support the workforce during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting seasons.
The new schedule, which takes effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026, allows public servants to close from work earlier than usual to participate in their spiritual obligations.
The directive was formally communicated through a circular titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina.
Under the revised timetable, state workers are permitted to end their workday at 2:00 PM from Mondays to Thursdays, and at 1:00 PM on Fridays. This special schedule will remain in place exclusively for the duration of the Ramadan and Lent seasons.
According to the circular, Governor Adeleke graciously approved the measure as part of the state government’s welfare package for its workforce.
“This gesture of the Governor is to enable public servants to have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquillity in the state to continue unhindered, more so as the gubernatorial election is holding in the state this year,” the document read.
However, the state government clarified that essential service providers will not be part of the adjusted schedule.
Medical personnel and other workers whose duties are life-saving and critical to the state’s daily functioning are excluded from this arrangement to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Governor Adeleke has further directed all political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), heads of non-ministerial agencies, local government areas, and Local Council Development Authorities to ensure full compliance.
They are also tasked with giving the circular wide publicity among their respective staff members to guarantee everyone is informed of the temporary changes.
