About 50 buildings were on Monday evening destroyed by rainstorm in Ikare-Akoko and Arigidi-Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The rainstorm, which rendered many residents homeless, lasted for one hour, as it reportedly started at 7pm and stopped at 8pm. School buildings, commercial centres and shops were also affected by the rainstorm.
Also affected were electric poles in the two communities, as many of them fell down while the rain lasted.
Consequently, power supply to the areas had been affected, prompting resident’s to appeal to authorities of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), to do necessary repairs and restore power.
Victims of the disaster, who are still counting their loses, lamented their fate, just as they solicited assistance from government. A community Leader in Ikare-Akoko, Chief Saliu Okoya, called on both the state and federal governments to come to the aid of the victims.
