Quillin: I'm Creating My Own Story!

Much has changed since boxing fans last saw Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin in the ring 12 months ago.

For starters, the 31-year-old Quillin no longer has his WBO middleweight title. Due to boxing politics and what many would deem a poor business decision, the undefeated New Yorker passed on a chance to defend his title for the highest payday of his career. Instead, he sat on the sidelines, was stripped of his belt, lost the chance to make millions and seemingly gained ring rust instead.

Ahead of his return to the ring on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York against the man who currently holds that title, Andy Lee, Quillin said he understood the criticism leveled at him but that he had no regrets about what he decided to do.

“I made a lot of tough decisions but it kind of defined me as a man,” Quillin (31-0, 22 KO’s) recently explained. “I was able to take control of certain things that I thought were right for me and right for my family. I took some time off. A lot of people don’t understand that because they’ve never sacrificed so much of their time.

“My sacrificing is being away from my family but this time I actually wanted to be there with my family. Having a baby and then having an uncle who just passed right before I got into to camp. I had to make a sacrifice not going to his funeral,” he said.
