PTML Customs generates N14.8bn in January

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command has recorded its highest monthly revenue since its creation in 2006 with a total collection of N14, 850,154,616 for the month of January 2019.

The figure is 49 per cent higher than N9, 967,751,491 collected in January 2018

This was achieved by sustained interactions with stakeholders to ensure improved compliance being carried out by Comptroller Florence Dixon, Customs Area Controller of the Command.

According to Mohammed Yakubu, Customs Public Relations Officer, Dixon oversees optimum trade facilitation by ensuring that compliant vehicles are cleared from customs control within six hours in the command.

The command collected N10, 024,673,259 into the Federation Account in February 2019. This is N2, 757,367,053 higher than the N7, 267,306,206 collected in January 2018.

In 2018, the command made over N120b annual revenue collection which was about N21.5b above N98, 835,815,515 collected in 2017.

Dixon disclosed recently in an interview that the command has achieved about 75 per cent stakeholders’ compliance.

She expressed optimism that will go higher depending on the volume of trade. She added that no aspect of customs function will be left unattended to in ensuring trade facilitation and revenue collection without compromising national interest and security.
