The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate PTAD, on Tuesday, said that it has paid all pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) another installment of the 33% arrears owed.
In a statement by the Deputy Director of Communication, Mr. Emma Okondo, PTAD said that the categories of pensioners that benefited are Police pensioners, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and parastatals’ pensioners.
According to the directorate, the police were paid 12 months’ installment bring the number of months of areas so far paid to 24 months with an outstanding of 18 months.
While the Civil Service pensioners were paid 6 months’ installment, making the number of months paid to date to 30 months with a 12 months outstanding. The parastatal pensioners received six months’ installment bringing the number of months paid to 18 with the highest outstanding of 36 months.
However, PTAD maintained that all pensioners under Customs, Immigration and Prison Pensions Departments, had already been paid the 33% arrears in full since August 2016.
The latest payment was made from the Service Wide Vote released last week by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The directorate assured the pensioners that it would settle the outstanding arrears of the 33% increment as soon as additional releases are made.
The agency also appealed to pensioners to be patient and continue to exercise vigilance against the activities of “fraudsters and rabble-rousers.”
“Always remember that the payment of pension and other retirement benefits is free,” the statement added.
