Prophet involved in alleged plot to kidnap member nabbed

Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a prophet involved in the alleged attempt to kidnap one of his church members in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Prophet Godwin Ayenugha, who is the head of C & S Church in Igbokoda was arrested along side with his accomplice, Ibukun Adetigba for sending kidnap threat messages to one of his church members, Segun Omosaye.

Parading the suspects at the police headquarters in the state, the Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju told newsmen that the prophet who was the spiritual father of the victim had told him about a “cooked up” vision that he would be kidnapped.

Adeyanju further confirmed that the suspect sent text messages to his victim, Segun who had earlier been kidnapped in January this year by unknown gunmen.

“On September 26, 2018 one Omosaye Segun of Okitipupa who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on November 30, 2017 but regained his freedom on January 5, 2018 received text messages from his abductors claiming that they were responsible for his kidnap, and that they were coming back to kidnap him again and if they eventually kidnap him, they were going to kill him.

“On receipt of this complaint, detectives swung into action and through intelligence gathering, arrested one Ibukun Adetigba and Prophet Godwin Ayenugha, a founder of a Church in Igbokoda,” he said

Adeyanju, also disclosed that the Tecno handset used in sending the text messages was part of the exhibits recovered from the suspects.

Confirming his involvement in the crime, Prophet Ayenugha who confessed that economic hardship pushed into committing the crime, stated that he had no plan of kidnapping his member but to obtain money from him.

“I don’t know anything about his abduction that happened last year but I only told Adetigha to send scaring text messages to him so that he can come to me for help being his spiritual father.

“Actually I have collected N150,000 from him concerning the text messages and I gave Adetigha N25,000.

“The reason why I did this is that I don’t have money not that I wanted to kidnap him,” he said.

Also, 11 other suspected criminals involved in kidnappings and armed robberies across various parts of the state were also paraded at the police headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State.

Among them were three armed robbers who robbed the proprietor of a private primary school of 18-seater bus.

The Police Commissioner however assured that after the necessary investigation, the suspects would be charged to court.
