Prof. Ibrahim Gambari’s portfolio

Born November 24, 1944, in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, Ibrahim Gambari, attended King’s College, Lagos.
He hold M.A. and PhD. degrees from Columbia University, New York, the USA in Political Science /International Relations, he also became a professor in Ahmadu Bello University, in Zaria, Kaduna State, the second-largest university in Africa.
Ibrahim Gambari is to resume as the Chief of Staff at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday as asked by the president.

1. In 1984-1985, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari served as the external affairs minister under Mr Buhari’s spell as a military head of state.
2. In 2008, He resigned as the head of a committee organising peace talks between Nigeria’s government .
3. in I995 he became Nigeria’s envoy to the UN
4. Niger Delta leaders and the militant group MEND rejected Mr Gambari’s headship of the proposed peace talks, saying he had defended Mr Abacha’s actions against international condemnation at the time of the execution of Sar-Wiwa and other Ogoni activists.
5. In 2005, Prof.Gambari, become the Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs.
6. He served as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission to Angola, 2002 to 2003.
7. Prof. Gambari resumed another role as the head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, which became the world’s largest peacekeeping mission and left that role in July 2012.
8. The newly appointed chief of staff is also the chairman of Abuja-based thinktank, Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development, which he founded.
