Press Week: Sen Wammakko donates N500,000 to NUJ

Lawmaker representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Wamakko (APC) has donated N500,000 to the Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to support its activities.

Wammako, made the donation on Wednesday night in Sokoto, the state capital during a dinner and inauguration of the council’s almanac to mark the end of this year’s Press Week.

The federal lawmaker who was represented by Malam Bashir Mani, his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, urged journalists to be patriotic in the discharge of their duties to promote development, peace and unity.

For his part, Malam Isa Shuni, the NUJ Chairman, in his remarks, commended the state government for funding the activities to mark the 2018 Press Week, and promised to reciprocate that kindness by effective coverage of its activities.

District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Jabbi, who was the chairman of the occasion, commended journalists in the state for their display of professionalism.

Similarly, the state Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Isa Achida, who was represented by Alhaji Abu Shekara, Director-General, Sokoto State Media Corporation, lauded the cordial relationship between journalists and the state government as well as pledged regular support to the media practitioners enable them carry out their jobs satisfactorily.

High point of the event was the presentation of awrd to Shekara, rAlhaji Ibrahim Gidado, former information commissioner, Alhaji Kabiru Umar, Manager, News, Rima Radio, Sokoto and Hajiya Rakiya Muhammad, Sokoto Bureau Chief, Daily Trust Newspapers.
