Presidential Election: Security Agents in Show of Force in Delta
Ahead of the March 28 Presidential election, security personnel were over the weekend deployed in a show of force exercise around council areas in Ughelli, Delta state.
The exercise is aimed at assuring residents of preparedness of security agency to protect lives and properties of citizens during and after the election.
The combined team of security agents comprises of men of the 222 Battalion, Operation Pulo Shield, Agbarha-Otor, Ughelli Area Police Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), local vigilante, as well as Man’O War.
The Commanding Officer of 222 Battalion, Lt. Col. Mathew Oyekola and Area Commander of Ughelli Police Command, ACP Smart Pedro led officers in the exercise.
The duo in a separate chat with newsmen said the exercise is aimed at assuring residents of the area.
They assured Deltans that the elections would be violence free.
The officers said that security agents are battle ready for any security challenges that might arise during and after the general elections.
“We were able to visit nine out of eleven local government areas under the supervision of the command and in doing this; we have been able to give reassurance to the people of the area that we are battle ready in giving them the needed security during and after the polls.
“The army and other security agents are in support of democracy and do not condone any form of electoral violence.
“Our moral is high and we are in top gear towards achieving the task ahead.
“All Deltans should come out in their numbers and perform their civic responsibility by voting for the candidate of their choice.”
