President Tinubu Flags Off Construction of State-of-the-Art Defence Complex in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art Armed Forces Complex in Abuja.
The event marks a historic step in strengthening Nigeria’s military infrastructure and reaffirming the nation’s commitment to the welfare and professionalism of its armed forces.
Addressing attendees, President Tinubu expressed his deep gratitude to the men and women of the armed forces, commending their dedication, courage, and resilience in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring peace and security. “Your unwavering service and sacrifices protect the freedoms and principles upon which our nation was founded,” the President said, adding that the new complex is a testament to the nation’s respect for their invaluable contributions.
The Defence Complex will replace the current facilities at Area 10, Garki, which have served as temporary headquarters for over three decades. The President emphasized the inadequacy of these facilities in addressing the evolving demands of national security and stated that the new infrastructure would reflect the critical role of the armed forces in Nigeria’s security architecture.
Highlighting his administration’s efforts, President Tinubu announced measures to enhance operational effectiveness, including the procurement of critical equipment and the advancement of the nation’s military-industrial complex. He proudly unveiled locally assembled Tactical Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), produced through collaborations between the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, the Nigerian Army Command Engineering Depot, and private partners like EPAIL and ProForce.
“These vehicles are not only a testament to our progress in domestic defence capabilities but also a boost to our economy,” he stated.
The President assured Nigerians that the first phase of the project would be completed during his administration and called on stakeholders to contribute to the success of the initiative. He pledged continued support for the troops and their families, emphasizing the importance of the complex as a hub of excellence and a symbol of unity and determination.
The event, coming shortly after the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, served as an enduring honor to those who have sacrificed their lives and sustained injuries in the line of duty.
“Together, we shall build not just a structure but a legacy of hope, strength, and pride for our nation,” President Tinubu concluded.
The groundbreaking ceremony underscores the administration’s commitment to modernizing the armed forces and positioning them to meet contemporary security challenges effectively.
