President Tinubu Departs for Europe, Set to Attend Global Sustainability Summit in UAE
President Bola Tinubu departed Lagos on Sunday, December 28, for Europe to continue his end-of-year break before embarking on an official diplomatic visit to the United Arab Emirates.
According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President’s European trip serves as a precursor to his engagement in Abu Dhabi early in January 2026.
Following his stay in Europe, President Tinubu will travel to the UAE at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
The Nigerian leader is scheduled to participate in the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026) Summit.
The weeklong summit, a global platform for sustainability, mobilizes leaders from government, the private sector, and civil society to strategize on the future of sustainable development.
The 2026 summit is anchored on the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.”
The Presidency noted that the event aims to “connect ambition with action across innovation, finance, and people,” showcasing global pathways to move forward with confidence in tackling climate and development challenges.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria immediately following the conclusion of the summit.
