Presidency Dismisses Atiku’s Claims, Calls for Focus on National Development

The Presidency has strongly dismissed allegations made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar regarding purported financial dealings involving Lagos State, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

In a statement released on Friday, the Presidency criticized Atiku for engaging in what it termed “social media gossip” instead of constructive political discourse. The statement emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on governance and national progress rather than engaging in distractions.

“Atiku’s claims are nothing more than an infantile attempt to remain politically relevant. His pattern of spreading unverified accusations serves no purpose other than to create unnecessary controversy,” the statement read.

The Presidency further accused the former Vice President of failing to transition into the role of an elder statesman following his defeat in the 2023 presidential election, stating that his actions have been more divisive than unifying.

Additionally, the statement reaffirmed the independence of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), emphasizing that the agency operates without external influence.

“As an independent institution, the EFCC carries out its mandate without interference. Any suggestion otherwise is a disservice to the agency’s professionalism and the rule of law,” it added.

The Presidency urged Atiku to focus on initiatives that promote national unity and economic progress rather than engaging in what it described as desperate political maneuvering.
