Premier League confirms One new coronavirus case in latest testing round

The English Premier League has confirmed that there has been one new case in their latest round of coronavirus testing.

It was the seventh round of testing since the teams began training in which 1213 players and club staff were tested on Monday and Tuesday.

The first six rounds of COVID-19 testing returned 13 positives and 6,261 negatives with other players having recovered from the virus.

While not confirming the team or the player affected, the results come a day after Manchester United cancelled their friendly clash against Championship Side Stoke City after manager Michael O’Neill tested positive for COVID-19.

The sides were due to meet at United’s Carrington training centre but the match was immediately abandoned without kicking a ball when the Northern Irishman tested positive, with United insisting none of their squad came into contact with him.

A chunk of teams is already planning for friendlies despite the positive tests with the Premier League scheduled to resume on June 17, when Aston Villa play Sheffield United and Manchester City face Arsenal.

Among the clubs who have recorded positive results since the first test include Watford, Burnley, Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur.
