Poll Observers: New Face of Neo-Colonialism?

From the way they speak, act and conduct themselves during elections, election observer groups from the West are gradually becoming the new face of neo-colonialism confronting developing countries, many seem to wonder.
These groups swarm developing countries at elections, ostensibly to monitor the polls but in practice import their values and try to dictate how countries should elect their leaders, including results to accept or reject.
Nigeria, for example, has had its fair share of the interference of such poll observers since 1999. At every election since 1999, these monitors use the opportunity to influence the polls, including making provocative statements.
Just few days after the governorship and House of Assembly elections, one of such groups, the European Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria, called for the cancellation of the poll results in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
Granted that the EU observers are entitled to their opinions, many Nigerians, however, question where the group derived such powers to call for cancellation of results and why it is fixated on the two states, while keeping mute on other states especially in the north where underage children were caught on camera voting, among other irregularities.
Clearly, the EU observers by their call overstepped their bounds, and should be called to order. Ditto other groups. These groups must refrain from acting in ways that insult the sensibilities of their hosts, including dictating poll results that should stand or not. It is the sole duty of the electoral umpire in any nation to announce poll results while the judiciary is empowered to uphold or upturn such, not poll observer groups.
