Policeman kills politician at APC rally in Kogi

It was a weekend tragedy in Ajaokuta town in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, when a triger happy policeman shot a politician Mohammed Ismail to death at a political rally last Sunday.

Ismail met his death while attending a rally to flag off the formal declaration of one of the chairmanship aspirants in the local government, Abdulrahaman Danasabe, at the football field of the Local Government Secondary School, Ajaokuta.

An eye witness who want to remain anonymous told Daily Times that the ugly incident occured around 2pm, while the All Progressives Congress. Chairmanship aspirant was unfolding his plans to move the local government forward.

While the occasion was going on, the policeman (name withheld), went berserk and suddenly opened fire, with one of the bullets hitting the deceased, killing him instantly

The killing of Ismail caused confusion in the area as those at the venue of the rally ran for their safety, scampering in different directions to avoid being hit by the hot lead, even as what led to the action of the policeman could not be ascertained.

However, some people at the ocassion said they were not surprise with the behaviour of the policeman, alleging that the law enforcement agent was under the influence of alcohol, as he was said to be ” very
high” at the time he committed the act.

The lifeless body of the deceased who was said to be an HND graduate of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was later buried around 7.30 pm on Sunday night.

When contacted on the incidence,the Police Public Relations Officer ASP William Aya a confirmed the incidence.

Aya who revealed that investigation into the matter has commenced, assured that the force will definitely take stringent stance in line with force rule and the law of the land.
