Police ready to fight crime, enforce restriction order, says commissioner

The Delta state Police Commissioner, Hafiz Inuwah, has assured people of the state of the command’s readiness to combat crime and enforce government’s directive in relation to COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Inuwah, who spoke to journalists in Asaba on Monday, said that the police has no magic wand, rather it’s the collective responsibility of citizens to provide useful information about the activities of criminals to help the police curb crime in the state.
He said the police will embrace community policing to enhance crime fighting in the state and commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his commitment and proactive initiatives toward the protection of live and property in the state.
The police commissioner said that without credible intelligence gathering, security agencies can only do little and called on the citizens to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by making available critical information on activities of criminals in their areas.
On the Issele Azagba crisis, the police boss blamed the situation on lack of information and the absence of a police post in the community.
He however, assured that the police command was on top of the situation with a view to bringing the hoodlums to book and increase patrol teams in the community.

Inuwah disclosed that plans were under way to establish a police division at Issele Azagba to beef up security in the community, but noted that the challenges to actualize the plan are internal and called on the people to cooperate with the police to check crime in the area.
Also, the police coommissioner unveiled measures put in place to enforce the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, disclosing that the command had mapped out strategies to ensure that the borders are closed as ordered by the state government.
He commended the press for its continued support of people to activities in the state, adding that the police will do everything possible to ensure crime becomes a thing of the past.
