Police, LASG taskforce arrest 220 suspects in joint operation

The Lagos Police Command in a joint operation with the operatives of the Lagos State Task Force and other security agencies have arrested 220 suspected criminals in the Lagos Island area of the state.

The operation which was tagged ‘Mother of all Raids’ was carried out on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police Mr. Imohimi Edgal and led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police Area ‘A’ Command (Lion Building) ACP Olushola Akinyede.

Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, disclosed that the suspects made up of 214 males and 6 females were arrested around the Obalende, Sura, Adeniji-Adele, Oke-suna, Sangros, Falomo, Agarawu, Bishop-Oluwole, Tokunbo, Idumota and Apogbon area of Lagos Island.

He commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Edgal for his prompt professionalism on tackling criminal activities across the State.

He also appreciated the effort of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for equipping the ‘Lagos State Command and Control Centre’ with modernised security equipment.

He said, “the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Imohimi Edgal has directed that all arrested 220 suspected notorious criminals be thoroughly screened before being charge to court for prosecutions.”

Ibrahim Oluwole who is one of the notorious criminal said he was arrested under the Obalende fly-over at mid-night.

He confessed to have belonged to a criminal gang that dispossess innocent members of the public of their valuables such as phones, wallets and jewelleries at night around Obalende.

The 27 year old who hails from Shagamu area of Ogun State however appealed for leniency from the Government as he promised to turn a leaf.

Men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and all Divisional Police Officers under Area ‘A’ command Lagos Island were also present during the operation.

The Chairman also revealed that both ‘112 and 767’ toll-free security numbers provided by the government is assisting the Nigeria Police and other Law enforcement Agencies across the State in tackling criminal activities.
