Police kill robbery suspect in Delta, injure 4 others

Police detectives attached to the Ogwashi Uku Police Division on Monday evening killed a robbery suspect in a gun duel while four others sustained injuries.
Police Commissioner in the state, Adeleke Adeyinka, who confirmed this to journalists on Tuesday in Asaba at a media briefing, said that the suspect was killed around Otulu satellite town in Ogwashi Uku Kingdom.
He added that the suspect and four of his gang members were robbing a community leader identified as Omerora Akune when detectives acting on a distress call swooped on them.
The police said that on sighting the detectives, the suspects engaged them in a gun fight, resulting in the killing of one of the robbery suspects, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
According to him, the community leader and his wife were shot, but fortunately survived the attack, adding that the police was on the trail of the fleeing suspects.
Adeyinka said: “We are on the trail of the fleeing suspects and the corpse of the dead suspect has been disposed at the morgue.
Our men recovered guns from the suspects including charms; we will not relent in doing our best to ensure that the state is completely rid off of all criminal activities.”
Meanwhile, in a move to find a lasting solution to herders and farmers clash in Ogwashi Uku community, a stakeholders meeting has been convened by the Ogwashi Uku Development Association (ODA).
President of the association, Rev. John Okolie said the activities of herders within the community have taken a huge toll on the community, adding that his association has over time been inundated with complaints from farmers in the community over the persistent and wanton destruction of their farm crops by herders.
