Police inspector kills father of 2 while chasing motorcyclist


A 28-year-old father of two, Fatai Oladipupo, has been shot dead by a trigger-happy police inspector, operating at Obabiyi axis, Ikotun/Igando area of Lagos state.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday night, while the policeman, Inspector Okoro Charles, attached to the Ikotun Police Division, was chasing a commercial motorcyclist.
The policeman allegedly fired at the cyclist, but missed his target and the bullet unfortunately hit Oladipupo, who was walking home.
It was learnt that the late Oladipupo’s wife had just delivered a baby some two weeks back.
According to the Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, Elkana Bala, the police inspector had been arrested. ,
Bala stated that investigation was ongoing as the suspect will be subject to internal disciplinary procedure and if found guilty, will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba, for prosecution.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident,” he stated, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has condoled with the family and friends of the deceased, and called for calm.
“He assures them that justice will prevail. Members of the public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation,” he said.
