Police Detains Suspects With Over 197 Tramadol Sachets

During a border operation, the Adamawa State Police Command found 197 sachets of Tramadol and detained two suspects in connection with alleged transnational drug smuggling. On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, signed a statement on Wednesday revealing the arrest.

One hundred and ninety-seven (197) sachets of Tramadol were found in the possession of two suspects, marking a significant breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking and trans-border crimes, according to the statement.

Muhammad Mustapha, 32, of Dorayi, Kano State, and Muhammad Sanusi, 48, of Garoua, Cameroon Republic, were named as the suspects.

According to the statement, they were “intercepted by operatives of the Border Patrol Fufore Unit, during an operation.”

“The illicit substances were transported from a South-Eastern state and were being conveyed through Adamawa State with the intention of smuggling them into the Republic of Cameroon before they were intercepted,” the Command said, citing preliminary investigation.

Dankombo Morris, the Commissioner of Police, instructed “the Command CP’s Monitoring Unit to take over the case for diligent investigation and further necessary action” and “commended the personnel of the Border Patrol Unit for their vigilance and professionalism.”

“Remaining resolute in its commitment to ridding the state of drug-related and illicit crimes,” the Command declared.

In December 2025, 150 suspects had been arrested and 1,396.5 kg of drugs had been seized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Adamawa, according to reports.

“In the series of coordinated intelligence-driven operations across the state, including the Airport, we have recorded landmark success, dismantling drug joints and intercepting deadly consignments,” stated Mr. Aliyu Abubakar, the Agency Commander in Adamawa.

“We found 60.500 kg of other opioids, 983 kg of Tramadol, and 353 kg of cannabis sativa,” he stated.

In addition to providing an account of his stewardship, the commander stated that two vehicles connected to suspected drug offenses were seized by command personnel.

According to Abubakar, the command counseled and rehabilitated 39 people who had been arrested for drug abuse, recorded six convictions, and has 53 cases pending in court.
