Police arrest drivers who attempted to kidnap Lagos business woman

Undercover operatives from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three members of a kidnap gang who had allegedly attempted to kidnap a Lagos based business woman called Ijeoma Eze-Okafor.

Two of the suspects, Emmanuel Okemayin and Austine Anyia both drivers to the victim and her husband had arranged with their friend Arowosola Adewale to contact a native doctor for charm to protect them during and after the operation.

It was gathered that the suspects had unknowingly requested for arms, ammunition and a vehicle from the undercover agents.

Parading the suspects at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Monday, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal said the command got the information on the planned kidnap on October 10, 2018.

Edgal said, “Information from a credible source revealed that some group of kidnappers had already concluded an arrangement to kidnap Mrs. Eze-Okafor.

Sequel to the information, directives was given to the FASRS Operatives to infiltrates the camp of the would be kidnappers and act along with them.

“The suspects requested for arms, ammunition and a vehicle from agents provocateur while the suspects on their path sent the photographs of the target, details of her vehicle and other information to their new partners, unknown to them they were dealing with policemen.”

The Commissioner of Police said it took the suspects ten days to perfect their plan but were arrested on November 29, 2018.

Speaking further, Edgal said, “During interrogation, the suspects- Okemayin, 27; Anyia 30-said they were both employed as drivers to the victim and her husband. While they also contacted Adewale 32; to help them in the procurement of charms from a native doctor for N10,000.”

The suspects confessed that they decide to kidnap the victim because she is wicked.
