Police arrest 70- yr-old man over alleged sexual assault on teenage girl in Bauchi

A 70 year-old man has been arrested by operatives of the Bauchi state police command over alleged sexual assault on teenage girl.

A crime bulletin made available to newsmen by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil on Tuesday, said discreet investigation has been initiated on the matter following the arrest of the suspect.

According to him, the suspect is alleged to have involved in multiple counts of Sexual assault involving teenage girls.

CSP Wakil explained that on the 01/09/25 at about 1600HRS a distress call was received that the elderly man identified as one Lawan Sani ‘m’ aged 70yrs of Bakin Kura area of Bauchi was caught on the spot in an attempt to commit an offence of rape with a teenager (real name withheld) ‘f’ aged 16yrs.

He said that the incident was said to have occurred in a house situated at Unguwar Sarakuna Bauchi where the old man is serving as watchman.

The PPRO said, on receipt of the report, operatives attached to C Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the DPO, SP Naziru Abubakar Pindiga, quickly acted and arrested the suspect.

He said that the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to having previously influenced the minor with N500 naira into the same residence.

Investigation further revealed that the suspect has sexually molested two additional teenagers, names withheld, through the same techniques.

CSP Wakil further revealed that the three victims were invited to an interview in which the teenagers confirmed the allegations and further disclosed that the suspect had sexually molested them over 15 times on different occasions.

The PPRO said the three teenage girls further revealed that the suspect usually threatened them against disclosing to others.

CSP Wakil said both the victims and the suspects were subsequently subjected to medical examination and autopsy to determine their health condition.
