Police arrest 2 cattle rustlers, recover 10 cows in Bauchi

Police have apprehended two suspected cattle rustlers in Ningi local government area of Bauchi.

The Bauchi state commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu disclosed this in a crime bulletin signed and made available to Journalists in Bauchi by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO of the state command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil on Saturday.

“On August 14, 2025, at about 0930 hrs, intelligence at the Command’s disposal indicated a suspected gang of cattle rustlers around Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi State”, CSP Wakil said.

According to him, “upon receipt of the information, a team of detectives drafted at the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters in collaboration with sister security agencies led by the DPO swung into action and successfully arrested two (2) suspects possessing ten (10) cattle suspected to have been stolen”.

The crime bulletin mentioned the suspects as Umar Usman ‘m aged 24 years and Auwal Mohammed ‘m ‘, aged 22.

CSP Wakil said both the suspects resides in the Magana district, Sabo LGA, Kaduna State.

The bulletin said during interrogation, the suspects willingly confessed to being cattle rustlers, and that they criminally conspired among themselves, went to a Fulani settlement located at Gwamnare bush area of Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi, and rustled the recovered ten (10) cattle in their possession about a month ago.

The Bauchi police command urged members of the public, especially the community of Gwamnare bush area of Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi and the entire public to further disseminate the information for the possible tracing of the rightful owners of the recovered stolen cattle.

CSP Wakil said investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be profiled and charged to court for the established offences accordingly.
