Police arraign man over alleged fraud of N1.8m

Ado-Ekiti – Police on Thursday arraigned a 46-year-old man, Oluyemi Olusegun, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.8 million fraud.

Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, the prosecuting officer told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in the month of January 2019 in Ilupeju-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the stated sum from Miss Adebayo Mercy, who launched the complaint.
Akinwale said the defendant borrowed the money from Albatross Venture, a Micro-Finance Bank managed by the complainant.
He said the defendant had disappeared since he collected the loan, adding that several efforts to get him proved abortive.
He said that it took the effort of the police detective to apprehend him.
Akinwale said the offence contravened section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor, however, had asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Busuyi Ayorinde, Counsel for the defendant urged the court to grant his client bail, promising the court that Olusegun would not jump bail if admitted to bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, went ahead to grant the bail application to the defendant in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum as no objection was raised.
Adegboye said one of the sureties must be a civil servant.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case until Feb.3 for hearing. (NAN)
